I was bullied for being “weird” (read: neurodivergent) throughout most of my childhood. The worst of it happened when I was 11-13. I’m THIRTY now and to this day, I still suffer from C-PTSD because of it. Bullying IS abuse, full stop.
To put it in perspective, most people would agree that aggressively berating and frightening, say, a cat or a dog into acting a certain way is, indeed, animal abuse. You were treated in a way most people would deem too cruel to treat an animal.
Please, try to reject that internalized notion that you deserved being hurt and humiliated for being “too weird”. You didn’t “ask for it”. You were a child and the way you were treated is nothing short of inhumane. Perpetuating this kind of thinking only encourages cruel people to keep hurting vulnerable people and pinning the blame on them.

If you are in a yellow state, you currently have constitutional abortion protections but they are in jeopardy. Get active in local political groups NOW to fight back against constitutional amendments to ban abortion. Your focus should be purely on political action.

- the FDA lifted restrictions on sending abortion medication by mail and this decision will be protected by the federal government
- liberal prosecutors are announcing their intent to decline to prosecute abortion-related charges and don’t need to fear federal reprisal
- the Justice Department is coming out against the decision and affirming the rights of pregnant people to travel to seek abortions (because don’t kid yourself that that won’t absolutely be one of the next things Republicans try to ban)

As a lot of sewing and costube nerds know, Bernadette Banner just released her book on sewing, a basic guide for sewing and mending based on historical techniques. She has a successful YouTube channel where she teaches these techniques and occasionally features other costubers, experts, etc. Naturally, in writing her book, she’s transferred some of the personal aspects that are part of any YouTube channel’s branding, such as illustrating her work with narratives and introducing the people who are featured in the book.
Because she has used people’s correct pronouns and approached this book in an inclusive way, it seems a group of TERF activists have organized and bombarded the book’s Amazon page with bad reviews, claiming the book has an “agenda” and is “political” by using the preferred pronouns of the people featured. Of course, this is this absurd – YouTube personalities, even those with substantive content who aren’t just influencers, are exactly that? Personalities? So of course there will be personal narratives, and why should someone’s identity be left out of their narrative, especially if the reason they need to tailor a garment is a gender reassignment surgery? I also imagine it may be triggering and difficult, as Banner has an openly non-binary sibling who has also been featured in her videos.
All this to say, you can go to Amazon and report these bigoted reviews or mark them as unhelpful, and if you have a copy of the book and like it, this is a good time to leave a nice review. The book was published less than a month ago, and bad Amazon reviews can tank new publications or push Amazon to force the author to make changes in some cases (though I think only with digital books, but as there’s a kindle edition and we all know that Amazon takes money from authors whose books are returned, I’m hoping these TERFs aren’t buying and returning Kindle editions just to leave shitty reviews). Anyway, it’s important to authors not to get dragged down by a TERF swarm, especially so early after publication. And it’s even more important to keep pushing back and showing TERFs that they can’t keep pulling this shit.

Something I don’t see mentioned often but that adds so much alien feel to DS9: I don’t think it’s ever purposefully stated “this station operates on the Bajoran 26-hour day cycle”. It’s something you realise by yourself, and it clicks. Is 26 Bajor hours equal to 24 Earth hours? Is 26 Bajor hours equal to 26 Earth hours? Doesn’t really matter, that’s how the day cycle just goes here. And then there’s some episode and Odo mentions “for the next 78 hours” and it feels a little weird, and then you realise it’s 3 days, of course it’s 3 days! But the phrase “next 78 hours” hasn’t been ingrained in your brain like “next 72 hours” has been. And you get to feel that these little alien guys on your screen are different in the same ways that feel natural to you.
