scifi is cool but space as a “frontier” needs to be dispensed with

space isn’t to be “conquered.” triumphalism go away

the vacuum of space isn’t the antithesis of life. spent nuclear waste in the Southwest desert is disruptive to life, human like us and otherwise. it is not a wasteland because it does not exist for our sake or even its own sake. it simply is. so goes for the airless gaps between worlds.

space as an object of conquest and exploitation is Elon Musk technofashy futurist bullshit ideology, yet it is accepted as self-evident by and large by left-wing ideologues as well.

this is a good blunt article about how exorbitant hollywood profit is only possible through exploiting the most vulnerable tranches of labor, which like many industries has always been the case and is as a result as precarious as it’s ever been

which is a shit deal for labor, but it also means that studios are incredibly exposed and that withholding their profits by skipping the theater and the subscriptions can have a bigger impact than ever before in terms of blueballing greedy studios

(such as Warner Bros’ Dune part 2, which plans to crunch VFX workers with a short 12 month schedule after cashing in on their labor in part 1 to win the oscar for best visual effects)

Pretty sure the company that pretty much won an Oscar for their VFX in the movie with the tiger in the boat (I have had a long day and am too tired to look up the title of it atm) went bust because of that movie 😕 this is kinda “paying artists with exposure” on a really big scale

In my dream, Gul Dukat was a stockbroker on Earth (but he was still a Cardassian). He lived in the same neighborhood as a wealthy single mother with two very fancy electric SUVs, both of which were a light aquamarine color. They hated each other and ended up committing crimes over state lines together. After those events, which they didn’t get arrested for (it’s possible someone else committed the crimes and they were trying to stop them), Dukat came up to one of the cars just before sunrise. The kid was in the backseat, and she was in the front. Dukat opened the door and held it open, talking to her as he did so. She eventually got tired of his idle talk and invited him inside the car. The sun was rising, and they were both running out of time before they had to go to work (though Dukat didn’t have to work as hard that day because business was going well selling Rene Magritte NFTS with binary code). She started trying to work her way into asking if Dukat would help her raise her son, but my alarm went off before she could.

“Dreams have meaning.” Yeah, sure.

if you’re a Starfleet captain theres a hidden device in ur chair that shoots a laser directly into your head and it makes you desire ur first officer carnally (does NOT make them return feelings tho) but if you’re bald it reflects the beam and just makes everyone else on the ship really horny for each other.
