The author is dead; or, J.K. Rowling needs to back off
Whether your fans lap up every single bit of post-canon information without questioning its merit or whether, as far as they’re concerned, you’re dead as a doornail and they’re going to disregard anything you have to say, you can’t just pop in and — pardon my French — poo all over something that has such an important role in your narrative. Who does that? Who tells the world that they think the core romance in their books is “a bit shit, actually, in retrospect I’d take out the years of foreshadowing and slow-burn and just put her with the hero, haha?” Who states that one of their characters is gay after seven books in which it’s not even hinted at? Who takes a heavily queer metaphor and applies it to a straight character (who, up until you opened your mouth seven years after the fact, a lot of people happily read as queer for 14 years)?
Rowling does. And she really needs to back off.
