Hrm, sorry ,but really though. The novelisations are their own entity, not just written down versions of the serials. On occasion they tell a slightly different story - in the same way that if you read several accounts of a historical event, or hear two people telling the same anecdote, they will be different.

So I accidentally wrote a thing? IMPROMPTU FLASHFIC WITH SARAH JANE AND JO.
‘Oh, darling, I’m sorry, did I get it wrong?’
Jo, somehow, was contriving not to look the faintest bit embarrassed for her own sake, only concerned that she might have upset Sarah Jane. Sarah Jane, for her part, was exerting a concentrated effort not to blush; she was a sixty-five year old woman, for God’s sake, she was absolutely too old to blush over a kiss.
‘No,’ she said distractedly, waving a hand in Jo’s direction. ‘I mean— no, really, I suppose I may not have been giving the clearest of signals. I’m just not really used to—’ she trailed off self-deprecatingly.
‘With women?’ Jo filled in understandingly, and Sarah Jane tilted her a wry look.
‘With anyone, lately.’
Jo gaped at her. ‘What, a gorgeous woman like you? I don’t believe it.’ She delivered a little shove to Sarah Jane’s shoulder, and then, as a thought occurred to her, her eyes went wide and she pressed her fingers to her cheeks. ‘Oh gosh, and here I am throwing myself at you like that. You poor dear.’ A quick flash of a smile. ‘I forget that not everyone’s quite as dotty as me sometimes.’
Sarah Jane laughed, reminded with sudden poignancy of one of the reasons she had become so terribly fond of Jo over the past few years. ‘Tell you what,’ she said. ‘How about the two of us go out for dinner sometime, and you can try your luck with the kissing after you’ve got a few glasses of wine down me.’
‘Ooh, you cheeky thing!’ Jo crowed, and for a moment, one of her hands fluttered up as if with the impulse to pinch Sarah Jane’s cheek or give her a wink-wink-say-no-more nudge, but subsided before she could do either. ‘You’re on. I know the the most marvellous little place, too.’ She paused for a beat, and then smiled with a surprising amount of irony. ‘Let’s see if we can manage a date without aliens crashing in in the middle of it, eh?
Sarah Jane could feel the blush still fighting to make itself known, but it was more from pleasure now than embarrassment. ‘I’d hope they could at least wait ‘til the second date.’
