Because I killed. And I caused to have killed. I sent young men and women to their deaths, but here I am still alive and.. That tend to haunt you, living, after so much of.. the other thing.

Rating/warnings PG for scary stuff and scarring.
Summary Something worse than a nightmare haunts Clara’s sleeping mind.
Spoilers AUish, picking up sometime after The Name of the Doctor. Possible to read without previous knowledge of Faction Paradox.
Author’s notes The Clara arc and Faction Paradox felt like such an obvious connection that I simply had to write it. (So this is to some extent an attempt at fixing canon.) Inspired by this edit by kelleycarries. I’m primarily using the EDA version of Faction Paradox, rather than the spin-off stuff, and at some points, I’ve played around with the canon (but hey, it’s Faction Paradox - that’s what it’s all about). Title from this lovely quote from Owen Meredith’s poem Lucile (II.II.5):
Alas! must it ever be so?
Do we stand in our own light, wherever we go,
And fight our own shadows forever?
war of the daleks is pretty good
i’m hoping this climb in quality will continue
It will. Alien Bodies, the sixth one, is amazing. By the time Fitz turns up, you get lots and lots of good books.
