continuation of this post– Kira and Garak decide to use their ex-spy/ex-guerrilla fighter skills to stalk keep a protective watch over Ziyal on her first date. Jake Sisko might be the Captain’s son, but he’s still a human, and who knows what kinds of ideas humans have about dating??

hopeful-trekkie-deactivated2022:

Hey guys, I have just found a GREAT garashir fanfiction, it’s one of those fanfictions in which one of the characters is sick so the other takes care of him, and it plays out great because bashir actually is a doctor. However, I must warn you, it is VERY angsty, like VERY, but it is also very sweet somehow because Bashir never stops caring for garak, not even when he lashes out at him. It also has a bit of quodo on the side! Trust me, I don’t usually like the angsty stuff, but this one is golden. If you are interested to see it, it is called “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - season 2, episode 22”

I am 100% sure she slaps him on the ass when he turns around.

It took Nog a bit to warm up to Ziyal, but now they’re good enough friends for him to agree to help her paint her claws for a date with Jake! She’s never put on nail polish before, but Ferengi wear it all the time, so Nog is a pro.

Ziyal and Jake have hung out as friends plenty of times before, but this is their first official date. It’s an important difference! Jake just wore one of his everyday outfits, but now he’s wondering if he should have dressed up…

Canonical facts about Doctor Parmak:

- he has the title of doctor

- his surname is Parmak

- Garak got him to confess after staring at him for four hours

- after his confession he just kept saying ‘his eyes, his eyes’.

- his pronouns are he/him

This is all we know, and it’s from a conversation between Garak and Tain during the opening credits of The Die is Cast (S3E21), so it’s up to the viewer to decide how reliable the information is.

Things that are beta canon or popular fanon are:

- his first name is Kelas

- he is a medical doctor

- he and Garak were lovers or had some kind of attraction

- he has white hair

- he wears glasses

- he suffered in ways other than the interrogation, for example in prison or an internment camp

- he has physical and mental damage from this

- he’s generally a ‘good’ person, the opposite of Garak; he’ll usually have Federationesque values of freedom and democracy, and very often be some sort of dissident, or at least sympathetic to their cause

I’m not criticising anyone’s portrayal of Parmak, of course. That would be very silly to assume. I love all of the Parmaks I’ve ever read and I’ve written him with a lot of these traits as well. He’s really useful as a sort of foil or friend for Garak or for Julian in post-canon Cardassia fic. But my point is, we could be even more creative with our Parmaks.

He could be Doctor Jeff Parmak, rocket scientist, and maybe he got into trouble with the Obsidian Order because he was selling Cardassian military secrets to the Ferengi. Or maybe he was Dukat’s best friend and that’s part of the reason Dukat hates Garak so much. Maybe he is/was a well-regarded botanist and Keiko’s aware of him and talks about him during her plant friends talk with Garak and Garak’s like, oh, yes, I’m vaguely aware of him, ahem.

We do in fact have alpha canon on that he’s a medical doctor, and we know he was in a labour camp. Tain says in that scene: “He spent three years in a labour camp, then returned to Cardassia Prime. I think he’s practicing medicine again.”

I agree that we could be more creative with our Parmaks (although I love my cinnamon roll so much). One part where I think people have made very different decisions is around the claim in ASIT that he was Tain’s personal physician. ( I have Opinions about this, something that I might well make a post about, because I find it interesting - not the fact itself, but the claim.) There’s tons of other stuff too of course.

Ooh, thanks, I missed that bit! Stopped the scene too soon, maybe.

(Your Parmak in Love in a Time of Oppression is my favourite Parmak as I’ve told you many times before.)

I know that scene off by heart tbh… (I did check the quote on Chakoteya, though, because I sometimes have that feeling ‘what if I have imagined this bit because I’m so invested?’)
