Happy holidays @conceptadecency!! here’s your @startreksecretsanta, just in time for the new year! keiko and garak enjoying some tea (both literally and figuratively) while their boys are out being spies or whatever ^^”
ds9 episode: o’brien gets sucked into a tricorder while trying to fix it and now has to go through multiple 8bit-style boss battles in order to break free or else he’s trapped forever. quark starts selling bloodwine seltzers. worf pretends not to like them but jadzia eventually finds out he’s been lying when he gets a severe case of the hiccups and she has to take him to the infirmary. jake and nog get caught in a pyramid scheme
This is just a rough sketch and the final drawing probably won’t actually have this color scheme because I want it to look “good” but I wanted to it share anyway lol
The thing with Dukat is, he was a legate, then demoted to gul, then assigned as Prefect of Bajor for twenty-three years. I think we can take that to mean he was not a military officer of great talent, but came from too important a family to be fired.
I also figure this puts him at around 65 years old, at least, when DS9 starts. In my personal headcanon, he’s thus not exactly an age-group peer of Garak. But then again, we have no idea how old Garak is so you can really say anything you like there.
I’m confused. Because according to Dukat the occupation was on-going for 40 years prior to him taking the position of Prefect (re: from memory alpha: “According to Gul Dukat (in “Waltz”), the Occupation had lasted forty years prior to his arrival, at which point he claimed the Occupation was in a state of chaos.”
Or does it depend on what our reference is when we say 50 years of occupation. Bajoran years? Cardassian years?
Ah, a canon conundrum! Offhand, two ideas:
1. Cardassians have very short years, like you suggested.
2. Dukat was out of his mind and/or flat-out lying. In “Waltz,” Dukat loses his grip on sanity, so this is easily plausible.
I have been thinking of posting about this, actually. I came to the same conclusion - that Dukat is around 65 - but I came to it through different means.
According to Memory Alpha, Dukat took Kira Meru as his mistress in 2346. The first series of DS9 is set in 2369. (For reference, Kira is born i 2343, was three at the time of Wrongs Darker than Death or Night, and 26 when the Federation turns up at DS9.) In 2346, 23 years before s1, Dukat was already prefect. He must be at least 40 at that point, so - 63 years.
In my headcanon, Garak and Dukat are roughly the same age - in fact 63 is the age I’ve settled on for Garak in several fics.
I like a younger Garak myself (I usually have him 40-42 when the series starts) but the thing is, we have zero markers to guess his age, so he can be any age you like and it won’t contradict canon.
You know that if you asked him he’d either not answer or give wildly contradicting information!

gently shakes these sketches out onto tumblr at 2 AM like a ramen flavor packet
1) Agent Enabran Tain and a mistake! The mistake’s name is Elim. Look at him! So cheerful, so full of crushable innocence.
2) Director Tain, some years later, doing paperwork. Being at the pinnacle of his career is nice and all, but sometimes being stuck behind a desk can be so dull compared to the excitement and variety of fieldwork. He hasn’t gotten to stab anyone in ages.
since PADDs are supposed to be fun futuristic advanced tablet computer things, it cracks me up whenever Trek shows a desk just littered with them. How much data can one of those things hold? Is it like one thing each, like Hit Clips? Amazing.
OMG. Was Mila hot too? Were they, like, OO power couple? Love to know your headcanon on that.
the answer to both questions is 100% yes
but what do you mean “were”?? They’re still absolutely a power couple:
(I have your fic The Family Bond to thank for how I imagine their relationship; I’m so glad these two terrible people found each other, love is real)
Cecil. She/her. During the day I sit in libraries staring at books. During the night I write queer fanfiction with a historical slant.
Some not-so-random facts: Gay space lizards are the best lizards. Star Trek is my life. I have too many DS9 ships. Classic Who and the Eighth Doctor Adventures make me grin stupidly. Kelas Parmak is the best. I will defend historically accurate portrayals of Alan Turing to the last drop of blood. Likes and asks end up in the name of @apolesens-otheraccount, because Tumblr doesn't have a way of changing which blog is your primary one. Nothing happens over there - this is the one to follow.
