don’t mind me, just some OMS fluff without plot
It didn’t happen often than Jim caught Spock nodding off over a book.
They had spent the whole day visiting several flea markets, looking for some old books to add to their collection that had been growing exponentially since they had retired. Although Jim claimed to be picky about which books he wanted to have in his personal library, every other book he stumbled upon happened to end up either in one of the many bookshelves that were scattered all around their apartment or on the small table next to their couch, where Jim was sitting right now, watching his husband’s head slowly tilting to the side.
He listened to Spock’s even breathing, unconsciously adjusting his own to match it.
It was just now that Spock lifted his head again, his eyes open but looking bleary. Drawing in a sharp breath, he met Jim’s eyes watching him and seemed to need a second to realize that he must’ve dozed off for a moment.
“Maybe you should go to sleep,” Jim offered softly.
Spock nodded and closed the thin book lying in his lap. He placed it on the small coffee table in front of him before hauling himself out of the old wing chair. Ignoring the cracking sound of his joints he straightened his robe and held back a yawn.
“I’ll come to bed when I’m through with this one.” Jim lifted the book he was holding in his hands and was surprised that Spock’s attention wasn’t directed to him but the couch. “Spock?”, he asked, raising his eyebrows.
“..Would you mind if I rested here until you’re finished?”
His mouth fell open and he stuttered an “Uh. N-no, of course not”, not sure why exactly Spock would prefer the couch over the comfort their bed provided.
“But you do know that you’ll have to get up again in one or two hours, right?” he asked, watching Spock grabbing one of the pillows.“I do,” Spock confirmed, visibly tired.
“Alright,” he said, huffing amusedly, “Come here then.“
What he actually wanted to say included something about ‘illogical’ and ‘human’ but he decided to keep it to himself, making his wide smile the only thing that gave away how delighted he really was. Putting his book back on the stack he had taken it from, Jim took the pillow and placed it on his lap for Spock to rest his head on.
It ultimately took Spock a moment of adjusting and stirring around before he found a comfortable sleeping position. Jim reached for his book once again and opened it where he had left off. This time however, he only held it with one hand, the other one placed on Spock’s head, gently stroking his graying hair. It didn’t take Spock long to nod off yet again.

KIRK: What’s that music you’re playing?
UHURA: It’s beautiful.
SPOCK: That was a simple scale. I was merely tuning the instrument.
MCCOY: But you can play tunes on the contraption?
SPOCK: I took second prize in the all-Vulcan music competition.
MCCOY: Second prize. Who took first prize, Spock?
SPOCK: My father.
KIRK: Can you play a love song?Very important actual deleted scene from “Elaan of Troyius”
