i had a dream i worked at some kind of starfleet dmv and it was my job to issue new ids and licenses. i was also friends with tom paris and harry kim, and they were like hanging out in the waiting area because my shift was almost over and we were going to go do something after.
data came in like 15 minutes before closing to get a new license and he handed me his old one and it said “smirnoff oglethorpe” and i kinda looked at him like “……?” and he goes “why do you think i go by data?” and i just. nodded and printed his new one for him without commenting on what was apparently his real legal name.
i was re-reading artificial condition, and i got to the part where murderbot and art didn’t understand tapan’s mom’s “inspirational” thoughts on fear. so i decided to create some inspirational messages they might approve of.

I posted these elsewhere and someone suggested this quote from network effect:
Jake: You know what Star Wars and Cardassia have in common? Daddy Issues.
Ziyal: I feel like we aren’t talking about the concept of filial piety in the broader sense of cardassian nationalism, and not just its relation to weird wizard religions!! Darth Vader is the hero of the prequels because of his relationship with Palpatine!
Rugal: But that filial piety in Star Wars is only a weakness for the Empire later! It can’t be a one to one relationship to the repetitive epic in the Never-Ending Sacrifice, even as it still follows seven generations of one family, because the state itself doesn’t last long enough.
Space Youtube has so many possibilities for teenagers in space to do some real cross cultural research
If you don’t know, you should know: These are William Ware Theiss’ original uniform designs for Star Trek: The Next Generation (The Art of Star Trek by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, 1997)
Cecil. She/her. During the day I sit in libraries staring at books. During the night I write queer fanfiction with a historical slant.
Some not-so-random facts: Gay space lizards are the best lizards. Star Trek is my life. I have too many DS9 ships. Classic Who and the Eighth Doctor Adventures make me grin stupidly. Kelas Parmak is the best. I will defend historically accurate portrayals of Alan Turing to the last drop of blood. Likes and asks end up in the name of @apolesens-otheraccount, because Tumblr doesn't have a way of changing which blog is your primary one. Nothing happens over there - this is the one to follow.
