my lil head canon is that “garak” was the name of the province he was born in, which is how they named natural cardassian children who didnt get a patronymic back in the day. so after he and julian get married it is “elim bashir” but his husband and friends still call him “garak” and it’s kind of a sexy playful nickname like if you called ur hot parisian friend “frenchie.” either way bashir has not called him “elim” even once in his life not even when he’s inside. thanks for reading!!!!!
Concepts of Cardassian body language, or rather tail language.
In this AU I envision them having stripes that show up when agitated, as a threat response. The neck ridges would also flare out to make the individual look bigger and more threatening.
Possibly thinking about the direction one tends to curl their tail could be related to handedness- but I also flirt with the idea of Cardassians being mostly ambidextrous.
There would be more variations and subtle signals one gives off with just tail position, and Hara gets fairly self conscious about how much she is unable to express with half a tail.
Definitely open to other people’s thoughts and opinions on this. Its mostly just ideas that have been rattling around in my brain.
Gul Ocett - the only woman Cardassian Gul we got to see in Star Trek.
My theory is that the Cardassian troops are all-male, recruited through a draft (which may be periodic or partial), but women can be officers, which they become through studying at the Dekaris Institute. There are not many though - in Cardassians, the fact that it was a female officer who brought Rugal to the orphanage is remarked upon, which implies that it is quite uncommon.
