I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on matte paintings used in films. If you are unfamiliar of what a matte painting is, it is a painted landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that is not real or at present filming location. While many famous matte paintings come from Star Wars, here are some from Star Trek. I encourage to click on these and look at the wonderful detail.

cardassian tv shows are all just soap operas—extremely long and convoluted multi generational stories about serving the state

There is beta canon to support this!

In Enigma Tales, p. 43, Pulaski goes through the holo-channels and “enjoyed a few soaps, as outrageous here as they were throughout the quadrant”.

@theadmiralwho @narwhalsarefalling I’m not denying Kai Winn was a truly despicable person, but she’s not turning her back on the Prophets after just 7 years, she’s turning her back on them after a LIFETIME, which included being sent to a CONCENTRATION CAMP for preaching the word of the prophets. You can say what you want about Kai Winn, but if my gods saw me beaten, raped, and tortured in a forced labor camp for years, but never once appeared to me even when I became Kai, despite appearing to other people who don’t even believe in them, I would be upset too.

@nerdfishgirl spilling the tea in the tags. She’s an extremely complex and dynamic character, and I would hesitate to clearly define her as a villain. And perhaps most importantly, she helps Sisko defeat Dukat when it really comes down to it.

answering this ask naturally made me think about a cute Garak and Bashir sleepover where they do classic sleepover things like braid each other’s hair and read juicy encrypted stationwide gossip (Garak please get out of people’s subspace messages)

surprise, it’s my first ever Garashir drawing! Hooray, it only took me months to get around to it.

philosopherking1887:

I love that there are so many possible answers to the question “When did Garak and Bashir start fucking?” and I’ve seen all of them beautifully realized in fic: immediately after their first encounter, sometime during “Cardassians,” after “The Wire,” after “The Search” (actually, I’m not sure whether I’ve seen that in a fic, but it probably exists), after “Civil Defense,” after “The Die is Cast,” after (or during) “Our Man Bashir,” after “By Inferno’s Light,” after “Empok Nor,” on the Defiant in early season 6, at any random time during seasons 2-6 (season 7 isn’t particularly auspicious), a few weeks or months or years after canon…

Pretty much any time is a good time for Garak and Bashir to start fucking. Though whenever they do (with the exception of right after they meet), they probably should have started earlier.

ok i saw a post abt jake sisko and it made me think about much i love him and nog as friends. both of them are children of single dads at the beginning and then get step moms. their careers kind of switch their expected path where jake was expected to join starfleet like his father but decided he wanted to work towards his passion, where nog was expected to go into business like his father but he decided to join starfleet instead. and how their personalities balance each other out and i LOVED jake teaching nog and helping him study bc it shows how much jake cares about him because he isnt off put by nog’s lack of interest in the beginning he just wants the best for his friend. i love them so much my BOYS
